Cindy Heen_4

Our goal is to foster the journey of visceral and spiritual catharsis for our audience—sharing a unique sense of individual presence and a united sense of community in the performative moment. Our dance intends to heal and spark the emergence of our full potential as witnesses to the aesthetic and personal power of transformation.

Meet the Director

Cindy has been dancing for the past past 27 years, and she is a recent graduate from Mills College with her MFA in Dance. Dance has helped Cindy throughout her life, and starting this company is a dream come true. Her goal is to connect people together, inspire others, take the audience on a journey, and look at issues going on in the world, all the while using dance as the medium.

When the butterfly emerges from the cocoon, it transforms itself. My hopes as the director of the company is to leave a positive impact on the world.

A big thank you to the dancers of Emergence Dance who help bring my vision to life

Sophie Conroy

Dancer with us since 2019

Sophie Conroy first started dancing at age 3 when her family finally settled down in Fresno, California. At age six Sophie’s father was deported again to San Diego, California where the entire family moved with him. She began dancing there immediately at California Ballet School. Sophie has received training from teachers at California Ballet along with Alonzo King, Stephanie Harvey, Trystan Merrick, Jared Nelson, Jeremy Zapanta, Zaquia Salinas, and many more. In addition upon coming to SDSCPA in seventh grade, Sophie has had the chance to work with the amazing teachers at the school and guests artists, such as Scott Wells, Christopher Huggins and Kevin Jenkins. Finally she would like to leave this message, “It’s not important how good you are, but it is important to work your hardest towards your goals; otherwise what’s the point in trying?”
